Really sucked it at the Wayne Ultra 44 mile XXC mountain bike race yesterday. For starters, I didn’t finish.. the dreaded DNF. I probably shouldn’t have picked a XXC race to make my re-entry into bike racing after nearly 14 or 15 years. I did the first “lap” and decided it was plenty. Less than needed levels of fitness, VERY tough course, and 95 degrees with close to that in humidity were enough to crush me into a pulp. I need more miles ( a lot more) in these legs before I tackle another one of these races. Next up for me is the Big Bear 12 hour trail race on July 17th! Relaxing today and will be back out running the Kanawha State Forest trails tomorrow. Oh, how can I forget? My buddy Clay Evans represented well with a 2nd place overall in the mens open XXC class. He had it won until a flat inside of the last mile cost him the win… he finished about 40 seconds off of the guy that ended up winning. Sucks, but that is racing I suppose. Maybe have a pic or two later or tomorrow.
